Crypto trading bot comparison 2026

“Which bot is the best?” is the wrong question — the right one is: which model fits my setup? Crypto trading bots fall into three categories with very different consequences for costs, data storage and control. This page classifies them — including the points where FuturesBot deliberately differs from the mainstream.

We are a provider ourselves — the description of the categories is therefore deliberately kept factual and also names the drawbacks of our own solution.

The three bot categories

Almost every offer on the market falls into one of these three groups.

☁️
Type 1: Cloud bot on subscription
Runs on the provider's servers, operated in the browser, monthly fee. Convenient, many exchanges — but your API keys are with the provider and the costs run continuously.

Fits if you operate several exchanges in parallel and do not want to keep a device running.
🧑‍💻
Type 2: open-source bot
Free frameworks that you install and program yourself. Maximum freedom, no license costs — but this requires Python knowledge, your own development of the strategies and no support.

Fits if you can and want to develop.
Type 3: Locally purchased software
Ready-made software that you buy and run on your own computer or VPS. One-time price, keys stay local, strategies are included and still adjustable.

Fits if you want control but do not want to program. FuturesBot belongs in this category.

The 7 Selection criteria

Order by practical relevance — independent of the provider.

  • 1 Project the pricing model over 36 months — don't compare the monthly amount, but the total cost over the period you are likely to use the bot.
  • 2 Check where the API keys are stored — and in any case leave the withdrawal permissions disabled in the exchange interface. A trading bot never needs them.
  • 3 Try test mode before money flows — with real live prices, not with historical backtests alone.
  • 4 Check what can be configured — strategies, leverage, filters, stop logic. The less you are allowed to adjust, the less the bot fits your style.
  • 5 View the risk mechanisms — daily loss limits, trailing levels, emergency stop. What FuturesBot provides for this.
  • 6 Check providers — Who is the provider, where is it based, how do you reach support? For providers outside the EU, enforcement in the event of a dispute is difficult.
  • 7 Watch out for promises of returns — and take them for what they are: a disqualifying criterion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which crypto trading bot is the best?
This question cannot be answered in a general way with any seriousness. A cloud bot with many connected exchanges can suit someone with accounts on many platforms; those who value local execution, their own parameters and a one-time price are more likely to find that in purchased software. A more useful question is: Which model fits my setup?
Are free trading bots an alternative?
Open-source projects such as Freqtrade are technically mature and cost no license fee. The price is your own effort: installation, strategy development, backtesting and maintenance are entirely up to you, and support is only available through the community. For users with Python knowledge and time, a serious option.
What is the most important difference between cloud bots and local bots?
Where your exchange API keys are stored. A cloud bot needs them on the provider's servers, otherwise it cannot trade. A local bot keeps them on your computer. On the other hand, with local software you have to make sure yourself that the computer or VPS keeps running.
How do I recognize disreputable providers?
By concrete return promises, a missing legal notice, Terms and Conditions that cannot be found, requests to deposit funds into third-party wallets, and support that runs only via chat groups. A bot that promises you fixed percentage profits is not a tool but a warning sign.
Do I need a lot of starting capital for a bot?
That depends on the exchange and the minimum order sizes, not on the bot. More important than the amount is that you only use capital whose total loss you can bear — trading leveraged futures can lead to a total loss.
⚠️ Risk notice: FuturesBot is a technical analysis and automation tool — not a financial product, not investment advice, not an investment recommendation, not asset management. You determine strategies, leverage and stake yourself. Trading crypto futures involves considerable risks and can lead to the complete loss of the capital employed; stop-loss and protection functions do not reliably limit losses (price gaps, slippage, liquidation). No profit guarantee; past or simulated results are no indication of future ones. First check every setting thoroughly in paper mode. Full risk notice →
